Welcome to Knitty Kitty. A place where you can learn how to knit. This blog will show you the ins and outs of knitting. I will share my experiences, knowledge and projects with you. Maybe you've never done any knitting before, or maybe you're just trying to perfect your skills. Either way this blog will have something you find useful.
I have always been curious about the world of blogging but never actually thought i would write one myself. I started to come up with a few post ideas amid this whole Covid-19 business (and becoming temporarily unemployed because of it). What else am I to do while being stuck in self isolation? In my opinion, there is no better time to learn to knit than right now, while we are all stuck inside going stir crazy! So, lets get started! And what better way to start then with 10 reasons why I started this blog in the first place...
10 Reasons Why I Started a Knitting Blog
1. As probably the only millennial (27 year old) I personally know of that avidly knits (and I mean avidly-- if I am watching TV, I also have my knitting in hand). I am hoping I am able to inspire a younger generation in the slowly dying art of knitting.
2. Nothing is more satisfying than creating a literal piece of art out of something that started out as a ball of string. It's not all boring granny squares, wash cloths and slouchy hats. Don't get me wrong, these are all amazing things to make, but there is so much more to knitting than these basic and common knitting projects. The art of knitting is also about colour work, textures and materials.
3. I am an introvert-- a semi- extroverted one-- but I digress. . My idea of a good night is sitting at home watching whatever is trending on Netflix while I work away on a new knitting pattern.
4. I like to challenge myself, and let me tell you, writing a blog is challenging. I AM NOT A WRITER! (You may notice some spelling or grammatical errors throughout this page, and I apologize in advance). English was always my worst subject in school. I never could fully express myself through the written word-- it isn't where my creativity lies. My creativity lies with being handed a material, be it yarn. paper*, clay, anything really, and turning into something new.
* I also can't draw AT ALL. I use paper mainly for paper crafts with my Cricut Maker!
5. When I was learning to knit, I faced many challenges. My Oma taught me to knit when I was younger, but it wasn't until years later that I really took off into the knitting world when I was 18. There were times where I would spend hours looking up How-To-Videos just to learn to do one thing. Don't get me wrong, there are tons of amazingly helpful videos out there, some I just found difficult to follow in my beginning stages. Through this blog, I hope to assist newbies in navigating the crazy world of knitting. I will provide the many videos I have found helpful throughout the years. (I would make my own videos but... introvert... remember?). I will also provide as much help as I can virtually, so if you ever need assistance please contact me.
6. I have two cats. And everyone loves cats, right? And what do cats like more than anything? YARN!! Why are they so stereotypical? I figured I would introduce my cats now, since they are the true stereotypical cat and enjoy yarn way too much. They are always either sitting on my patterns, stealing my yarn or trying to play with it while I'm trying to work. They will appear in many pictures that I post and are the inspiration for the name of the site.
And yes, they are named after Disney characters.
7. I enjoy teaching people to knit. As I became more confident and experienced with knitting I began to teach a few friends. I really liked being there every step of the way to help them when they got stuck on a pattern or dropped a stitch. I am by no means a professional knitter but I hope my posts are able to guide you in the right direction. If you ever get stuck or have a question for me, please go to my contact page! Also, if there is anything you want to learn let me know. I would love to take your input on what you would like to see on my page and turn it into a post.
8. I LOVE introducing people to my favourite brand of ALL TIME!! KNITPICKS!!!! (No, I am not a brand ambassador and don't get paid by them-- however, Knitpicks, I would love to work for you... so, if you see this, you know where to find me). They are an American online based retailer (boo duties/exchange rates). Very few Canadian retailers sell their stuff, and the only ones I have found that do, only sell their needles and crochet hooks. The needles I have are the Rainbow and Caspian wooden needles that you will see in many of my future post. They are the sharpest and smoothest needles I've ever used! I will never go back to the metal or plastic needles, with one exception. The skinny double pointed wooden needles used for making socks tend to snap... often.

And don't even get me started with their yarn. It's the most luxuriously soft yarn and it's so smooth and easy to work with, without any fraying! And OMG! The colours! There are so many amazing colours for all the different types of yarn they sell. Some even have 150 colours and shades! So far, I have only had the opportunity to use their: Wool of the Andes-Worsted, Mighty Stitch- Worsted, Chroma- Fingering, and Stroll Sock Yarn- Fingering, but I look forward to trying out more!
9. I enjoy learning new skill with knitting. I hope with this blog to implement new techniques and try things I've never done before. Have you ever... Hand dyed your own yarn? Spun your own yarn from a pile of wool? Done yarn felting? Me neither! But they are all things I would like to explore so I can share my experiences with you.
*If you have done any of these things... tell me everything! Was is fun? Easy? Hard? How did it turn out?
AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST
10. I LOVE KNITTING! Why else would I spend all of my time not only doing it but writing about it.
I look forward to experience this journey with you all.
